Guess the J-pop song

J-pop packs a lot into a short space. Tempo shifts, key changes and dense arrangements mean five seconds of the intro and five of the chorus can sound like two different songs. Anime tie-ins carry many of the genre's biggest hits, so plenty of players know a track from an opening sequence before they know the act. YOASOBI's "Idol" is the obvious example.

Voices help most. Ado's range, Aimyon's plain, conversational delivery and the high register in OFFICIAL HIGE DANDISM's choruses are distinctive enough to place quickly. The harder rounds come from acts with long catalogues, like back number, whose ballads are built the same way and only part company at the chorus. Kenshi Yonezu is a different problem: his melodies turn corners you don't expect, which helps once you know them and throws you until you do. Aimer and Tani Yuuki are here too.
